Radar for Space (RfS)
2nd Workshop 2025

After the success of the pilot event on the Radar for Space (RfS) focus group held at the University of Birmingham in 2024, we welcome you to the second workshop of the Radar For Space EMSIG Focus Group, which, this year, will be held at Goonhilly Earth Station, Cornwall (https://www.goonhilly.org/), on 27 March 2025.
Radar for Space (RfS) is the focus group that encompasses all uses of radar relevant to space, including:
(i) Space situational awareness and space domain awareness, considering both ground-based and space-based radar sensors
(ii) Earth observation using space-based radar
(iii) Sensing technologies and RF/ EM systems and components
(iv) AI-based approaches for enhanced SDA/SSA.
The group’s main goals are in identifying current challenges and gaps, defining perspective directions of research and successful strategies for collaboration, as well as finding the complementarity of the expertise within the group and knowledge exchange. One of the intentions of the group activities is to form a recognised expert structure that can be involved in policymaking and regulatory activities within the UK and internationally.
Research and development within the area of sensing, SAR/ISAR imagery, AI for image processing, scene and object characterization, as well as SDA/SSA use case modelling and simulation approaches are within the wider interests of this group.
Industrial talks outlining challenges and opportunities within the subject area are especially welcomed, as we are looking to integrate more with specialists in satellite technologies.
